In the Words of Mark Twain (2002)

Medium: SATB

Length: ~8.5 min

Commissioned by the Gainesville Civic Choristers under the direction of Marlene Udell, In the Words of Mark Twain is a collection of eight short movements setting some of the many humorous quotes of the great American author. From the chorale setting of "Man is" to the fugal treatment of "Always do right" to the barbershop harmonies on "My advice to girls" and the rollicking "My conscience is more trouble and bother," this collection explores many different musical styles designed to enhance the texts.

In the Words of Mark Twain was a finalist in the 2004 Ithaca Choral Composition Competition.
