Composed in the spring of 2022, Zephyr Whirls, Flame Twirls is an energetic and up-beat trio for flute, oboe, and bassoon. In ABA form, the fast and lively opening section employs a significant amount of mode mixture, and constantly changing meters with the flute generally taking the melody. The B section is gentle and lyrical and moves the primary melody between the oboe and the bassoon in its lovely upper register before a return to the opening material and a rollicking rush to a flashy finale.
